Our Democratic Europe (en)

Throughout 2017, youth from four European countries will participate in a new transnational project “Our Democratic Europe” funded by Erasmus+ and facilitated by the national public libraries in Poland, Belgium, Netherlands and Denmark. The project contains of a comprehensive exchange program aimed at creating and educating exceptional teams of Young Democratic Ambassadors, which will operate on local, regional and transnational levels with the purpose to establish structured dialogue and meeting between young people and descionmakers in the field of youth.

 

The project aims at young people aged between 14 and 19 years old, who are willing to represent their generation and are passionate about changing the strategy when it comes encourage young fellow citizens to participate in democracy and strengthen the political and media-related focus on youth.

 

The participating countries are each responsible for forming their own national task force of young people and provide education throughout an one-year action-learning program. The participants are selected by the national public libraries in cooperation with local schools, institutions, youth organizations etc. that typically will contribute to the learning program.
 

The task force will meet up occasionally to gain knowledge, discuss, develop and co-create new methods and events for involving and empower fellow youngsters in the European democratic debate and influence the EU 2020 Strategy. The national libraries are responsible for the training sessions and the guidance on facilitation debates and dialogue processes. They will encourage the participants to act in role as ambassadors, create and handle events, speak in public, give presentation, get public attention through dialogue and cooperate with decision makers and local Medias.

 

During the program, the participants will practice their skills in planning and executing local events and four regional seminars based on subjects from the EU 2020 Strategy (Employment and education, climate change and sustainability, fighting poverty and social exclusion, R&D and innovation). At the same time the regional seminars work as preparation for four transnational seminars, which will bring the national task forces and local decision makers from the participating countries together for knowledge exchange, test of methods, debate and democratic innovation design.   

 

The outcome will be a collection of important proposals changes, ideas and suggestions in the way of involving youth in democracy and will be released as a Red Book, which is handed over to the EU Commission by the Young Democracy Ambassadors themselves at the end of the project.
